So what are the must have apps for the Droid?
« on: November 11, 2009, 10:04:28 AM »
Any sort of task killer is a good start for me.  I like the ESPN Widget. For all of you folks that IM a ton eBuddy rocks.  It allows you to chat with all of your IM friends in on app.  Yahoo, goggle, AIM, Messenger not matter you can chat with all of your contacts.

I second the Goggle Sky app it may be the second coolest app for the Droid.  I like Goggle Listen too.  I start every morning with a couple of pod casts from ESPN.

If you are a pod cast fan Google Listen is a must have.  You can stream, download, and subscribe to pod casts.  Good stuff.

Ok here is my list of favorite apps so far found. Also stars out of four on my ratings.

Handscent SMS: ****  For your texting needs, and it gives you a popup notification on the Droid
Google Latitude: **  Shows you were your friends that install it are as well.  Just kinda fun to play with.
ScreebL Lite: **** A cool way yo keep your display from going out while your reading it, but will go out when you aren't using it.
Barcode:   ***  Helps you go right to apps when surfing PC on Androlib.com
Google Sky:  ***  Cool program, but useful for me in night time photography.
Key Ring: ***  Keep all your CVS, Food Lion, Membership cards on your Droid
Weather Channel:    ****  If you are looking to keep up on weather its is great.  Forecasts, Radar, and a cool video forecast for you local area.
Weather Widget:  ****   Give you a large flip style clock on your home page and current weather conditions all in one app. Also gives smaller widgets with out clock.
Meebo:  ****  I use this for Facebook chat.  You can do pretty much any chat engine on this app.  IM, Myspace, Yahoo...list goes on.
PicSay:  ***  Photo viewer, the cool thing is this view has Pinch Zoom like the Iphone.  So don't let the Iphone guys brag about pinch zoom, show them we have it too.
Facebook: ****  Good working app, and it gets up on a addiction...FB.
Pandora:   ****  This is a cool radion station that is setup by you.  You put in a band or a song and it starts to add simular artists, and you can say yes or no to them. Or you can add more atrists and songs yourself.

Great post!  I have looked at Key Ring but how well does that really work in the stores?  Do you just hand your Droid to the cashier and have them scan it or do you use self check out and scan the Droid yourself?  Overall how well does it work?

There is a great free app in the Market called "Where".  Check that one out it's full of info.  If you travel a lot I would think it's a must have.  Here is an overview:

WHERE (Android) 1.0 is a useful mobile app that offers you information about the people, places and things around you. It is the easiest and fastest way to get the GPS content you want on your phone, with a library of FREE widgets that will help you find the hottest events, the best prices, local weather report and more.

I may even do a video software review of this one.

ShopSavvy is my fav app.  You can scan items and it checks local store prices as well as web prices.  Saved 50 bucks Christmas shopping this year!

Astro File Manager - The best file manager
Documents to Go - View Word, Excel, and PDF documents
Dolphin Browser - An awesome feature rich browser with pinh and zoom
Layar - You have to check this one out. It's hard to explain exactly what it is so give this one a look.
PicSay - Good photo editor
Qik - Allows you to stream live video from your Droid
Talk To Me - Translator.  Speak your word or phrase and choose which language to have it translated into.  It will speak it back to you in that language.
